The NBA's City Edition jerseys aren't just merch - they're brand moments. The Wizards' 2022-23 City Edition was built around the cherry blossom, D.C.'s most recognizable visual signature.
The team needed a graphics package that could carry that idea across the entire season: in-arena moments, broadcast graphics, social content, sponsor bumpers, and game-night theatre. Not a one-off open. A brand world.
We took the City Edition brand guide and turned it into one.
The City Edition brand guide leaned heavily on cherry blossom illustration. Beautiful, but flat - designed to live on jerseys and merch, not to carry a film world.
We supplemented those illustrations with photo-realistic blossoms, branches, and falling petals. The result was a hybrid look that read as the City Edition language extended into broadcast - illustration and 3D talking to each other across every element.
The system covered headshots, matchups, the logo loop, sponsor bumpers, the open, and in-arena assets. Each piece designed to feel like the same season, the same takeover. Every Wizards game night, D.C. bloomed.
